Introduction

The chapter pays attention to the studies performed by others to acquire more insight on how 5G technologies transforms operations and enhances connectivity.

Transportation Problem in the World

Dubai faces considerable challenges in its transportation system because of the escalating number of cars on the roads. The UAE has applied some interventions similar to other nations, but it appears some strategies are not working, which require the application of more superior techniques. Dubai should follow the suit of other developed countries that are already using smart technology.

The Transport System in Dubai

Dubai has a developed transportation system because it is one of the most developed places in the world. The government continually improves the various forms and modes of transportation with the objective of attracting more visitors, easing transportation, and making Dubai one of the leading nations in terms of using technology to improve the transportation system. The government wants to satisfy the expectation of the millions of tourists who visit the city annually in terms of effective forms of transportation.  The RTA (Road & Transport Authority) continues to work closely with the federal government to regulate transportation systems across the country, and to facilitate easy flow of people and goods from one place to the other.

Transportation and Ecosystem

The Dubai government understands the effects the increased number of vehicles has on the ecosystem and it is one of the major reasons why it plans to come up with a smart system. Developing a transportation system that does not affect the environment requires increased investment in modern technology, which is considerably costly. Businesses are also reacting to the concerns that unregulated forms of transportation affect the ecosystem and are creating proper models that are also influencing public transportation. State officials in Dubai perceive such models to be appropriate in creating a transportation system where people move around without much challenge.

Dubai and Technology Development

The stakeholders in Dubai focus on improving technology because this is what appears to drive competitiveness at the global scale. The state already runs several projects with the objective of improving technology use in the city and the whole of the UAE. The fact that Dubai is an emerging market in the UAE and technology is becoming a vital component in daily activities. All these initiatives contribute towards making Dubai one of the leading technology hubs in the world.

5G Technology and Strategic Guidelines

The 5G technology may create significant transformations globally on various industries. The communication sector is likely to witness the most transformations and development.

5G technology and its Advantages

The 5G technology is perceived to be an advanced innovation that is receiving the attention of many players globally. Since its introduction by the AT&T Company it has been found that it has numerous benefits.

Vehicle 2 Vehicle (V2V)

The 5G technology will make it possible to generate direct interaction from vehicle to vehicle, which shall enhance communication without causing confusion with third networks.

Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I)

The 5G technology will play essential functions in easing interaction between cars and transport infrastructure such as cameras, drones, lights, and other components that monitor flow of traffic.

Multimodal Transportation

The idea of multimodal transportation is to incorporate the transportation system with the aid of an innovative journey.

Technology Acceptance Model

The TAM (technology acceptance model) allows people to embrace the use of technology efficiently. It mainly focuses on the users’ behavior and intention towards a particular technology.

Diffusion of innovation

The diffusion of innovation theory is an important aspect while applying new technology because it gives insight into the consumer about the preferences regarding particular services, goods, and products.

Smart City Transport Infrastructure

The UAE is focused on developing smart cities and hopes to utilize 5G technology in developing the city.  The smart city requires the application of advanced communication structures and all parties are looking forward to see how the new technology will influence production.

Role of the Government in Implementation of 5G

The federal and local governments in the UAE are committed to improving the state of transportation in the country using 5G technology. Already, the government has entered into numerous contracts with the hope of improving operations in the target areas.

Expectation of Management from 5G Technology in Dubai

The authorities in Dubai have tested the 5G technology and have realized that the technology has the potential to transform transportation practices in the city and the whole of the UAE. Consequently, the management hopes to engage in a number of initiatives as a way of installing the technology.

Challenges during the Implementation of 5G Technology

The team in charge of the installation process should watch out for some of the possible limitations that could make the implementation process difficult. The stakeholders should work together towards identifying the loopholes and instituting proper measures to prevent adverse eventualities.

Impact of 5G on the Transport of Dubai

Implementing 5G will have significant impact in the functioning of the transportation system in Dubai. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority and Etisalat have entered into a deal with the motive of improving the use of technology to facilitate the transport system through the installation of IoT.

Socio-economic Benefits of using 5g in the Transportation Industry

Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology

The unified theory is utilized to give guidance on the acceptance of technology and permits the management to acquire insight into user acceptance of IT. The design helps to understand the users’ view and intention towards the use of the technology.

Empirical Studies

The transportation system in the UAE is developed, but the country is focused on fully installing self-driving vehicles and to improve other systems to make the region a leading financial and tourism hub.

Summary

The conceptual framework informs how the government of Dubai can use 5G to improve the transportation system in the country. It shows that successful implementation of the technology will ease some of the challenges that hamper smooth flow of automobiles from one point to the other. Applying 5G will allow Dubai to compete with some of the developed nations that are already using sophisticated systems to improve transportation.
