The Issue:

Single sex classrooms are classrooms that restrict the occupants or students of the classroom to a specific gender.

Issue Origins:

Single sex classrooms and modes of study is an issue that has attracted controversy because of the perceived inequalities in institutions belonging to specific sexes. In a world seeking to ensure the presence of gender parity between male and female, there is a dire need to establish the presence of clear advantages and disadvantages associated with the specific classification of classrooms by gender.

Reason 1:

Controversies arise from exposure to different conditions such as the presence of non-standard facilities and opportunities between male and female institutions and students respectively.

Reason 2:

The second reason is based on the notion that the single sex based classrooms settings have higher advantages in comparison to other institutions. Such advantages include higher performances of individuals enrolled in same sex institutions in comparison to co-educational institutions.

Reason 3:

On the other hand, the claims about better performance in single sex institutions are based on mere assumptions, which are unfounded. It is difficult to base ideas on assumptions of the presence of either superiority or inferiority.

Problems the issue causes  

Effect 1 on the issue:

This results in double expenditures for local authorities in their efforts to establish learning institutions and the maintenance of such institutions in their operating capabilities.

Effect 2 on the issue:

Development of distorted views about the presence of varied cognitive abilities this results in the emphasis on the presence of differences between male and female individuals. It enhances the presence of gender inequalities and gender differences are focused to develop the types of institutions identified.

What is being done to combat the problem?

Coeducational programs have been established to enhance the presence of gender diversity and coexistence between male and female students in institutions in preparation of their lives and socials settings.

Solution 1:

An overhaul of the gender based educational systems is paramount to ensure the presence equality in terms of access of any institution of learning as well as the subsequent employment opportunities.

Solution 2:

Government funding would provide the much-needed resources to establish co-educational institutions, which encourage gender diversity and equality.

Suggestions for addressing the problem:

Development of new institutional curriculums

Suggestion 1:

The development of a curriculum, which enhances the development of the two cultures instead of specific focus on one gender, would provide the much-needed equity between genders. Curriculums should be tailored to blur the differences emphasized between the two genders and to enhance the achievement of gender parity in the society.

Suggestion 2:

Integration of the two types of institutions to result in coeducation, which would eradicate the notion of the presence of superiority and inferiority between male and female.

What will happen if the issue is not fixed?

A growth in the gap between the two genders would result if the practice were to be continued. It would result in the entrenchment of the belief of presence of cognitive abilities between male and female.

Negative Outcome 1:

This would result in greater divisions between the two genders because of practice of different ideals about life or society

Negative Outcome 2:

The presence of the two systems independently emphasizes that there are differences between male and female in terms of their abilities and physical capabilities and abilities.

Conclusion:

Gender based teaching is unwarranted in a society aiming at ensuring the presence of gender parity. The presence of specify gender based learning systems emphasizes that the differences between the male and female in a society should be paramount rather than on the ideological and intellectual capabilities on individuals.
