Reflection: Genocide in Darfur

Over the years, the region of Darfur has elicited both local and international appeal due to the gravity of the violence witnessed. Because of the dire situation within the region, Darfur has produced large quantities of humanitarian needs. Most of these demands occur in the form of the need for shelter, food, clothing, and other important aspects such as water and security. Additionally, international organizations such as the Red Cross have been involved in the crisis in order to cater to the humanitarian needs of the millions of displaced people within the respective region. Despite the involvement of such organizations, the approaches for intervention have been marred by the consistent conflict within the area. Due to the nature of the violence within the area, certain aspects are responsible for blocking successful intervention. For instance, the transportation network is a very pertinent factor. Because of the absence of a key surfaced road system in the region, efforts aimed at peacekeeping, and the delivery of relief, peace, and security have become hampered. Aspects such as insecurity have also contributed immensely to obstacles that hinder successful intervention in Darfur. In order to stop the conflict from going on further, negotiations are underway between the warring factions responsible. For the aim of peace, different agreements have been initiated. These involve the 2004 Addis Ababa Negotiations and the 2007 Sirte Negotiations. Additionally, efforts such as the N’Djamena and Abuja Negotiations have become part of the processes aimed at stopping conflict in Darfur. In conclusion, as a student of global citizenship and social entrepreneurship, the presentation illustrates the extent to which human beings are capable of conflict without considering the ramifications that will befall their actions.
