Leslie

A study done by Mercer on thirty thousand workers worldwide showed that between 28% and 56% of workers, wanted to leave their jobs. This shows the level of job dissatisfaction is very high. Leslie is a clear example of a person who is dissatisfied with her current occupation. Teaching is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. A teacher should exhibit qualities like patience, love towards the students and a deep passion for the profession. These qualities are not inherent to everyone. Therefore, the teaching profession is not for everyone. However, there are no measures to check on these qualities. Individuals still find themselves in the teaching profession without these qualities. These individuals have a very hard time at work. They seem irritated and disgruntled most of the time. Leslie is one of these individuals. Leslie found herself in the wrong profession because she made decisions irrationally.

Leslie did not have interest in teaching. She chose to join a close community college just because of her friends. This was the first mistake that she did. However, she again decided to transfer to a university ninety miles away. She did this in order to please her high school boyfriend. She later settled to major on secondary education because she could easily combine her studies with raising her child. This shows that she chose to become an educator just because of her convenience at the time. What did not cross her mind is that the inconvenience would not last forever. A career is a lifetime choice and it should consider the posterity outcome. The choices that Leslie made show her lack of focus. It is important to have a focus because it guides the choices that one makes. Leslie did not even consider whether she has the right qualities to become a teacher.
