Labor Day
Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September every year. The labor movement in honor of the achievements of the American workers created a holiday. P.J. Maguire first suggested it. He states that a day should be set aside to honor those “who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold” (Dayton, 12). It was planned by the Central Labor Union and was first celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882 in the city of New York. The labor force is vital to the improvement of living standards as well as the realization of economic goals of a country. Labor Day is celebrated as a show of gratitude to the numerous workers in America who dedicate themselves to provide services to the people. It is a national, yearly tribute to the workers whose role in the prosperity of the country is immense.
