Question One

The communication process consists of six components (Wandberg, 2001). Failure to include these components during any communication process renders the process futile. The initial step in the process involves identifying the context of the message. This involves categorizing the message into the desirable part, which may be official or unofficial therefore determining the audience. The sender or the encoder is the originator of the message. The message is the actual information that intends to be relayed. The medium is the channel through which communication is to take place. It may be print medium, electronic or through sound (Wandberg, 2001). The receiver is the person whom the message is intended. The receiver acquires and interprets the message. Feedback is the final component of communication that involves the response of the receiver.

Question Two

Different people use different communication styles depending on various reasons. Culture is one factor that affects how people communicate with each other. The diversity of cultures influences the style of communication a person uses considering they have been exposed to different cultural norms. A major challenge to the communication style diverse cultures use is the effect of language barriers where some words and phrases are used to infer different meanings. Non-verbal communication is also a major challenge that the people encounter owing to the different meanings in the facial expressions, gestures and senses (Wandberg, 2001). These cultural issues affect communication extensively.

Question Three

In greater context, communication studies describe an academic discipline that is concerned with communication among people. It is concerned with the different elements in communication that people apply daily as they interact with others (Wandberg, 2001). Most scholarly and accredited schools have courses on communication studies that are meant to improve the interpersonal skills in people through different issues of communication. It incorporates aspects related to social sciences and humanities displayed by people. Communication studies offer the students an ability to take up diverse careers such as professors, researchers, journalists and advertisers as well as pursue advanced courses. Similarly, it allows the student legibility to join professional bodies associated with communication.

Question Four

Communication as an academic discipline is concerned with different sectors that reference message passing from the teachings in communication studies. Most disciplines involve message passing that is a core element in realizing objectives. The legal system applies communication processes during court procedures. In media, communication is applied when relaying relevant information (Wandberg, 2001). In the medical field, communication is used between the doctors and the patients. In the organizational setting, communication is used between leaders, managers, co-workers and subordinates. In the political field, communication is used between delegates during meetings and campaigns. Intercultural and international scene, communication is used between people of different social and cultural backgrounds.

Question Five

As an academic program, communication studies aims at achieving more than proper interaction among people. The learning goals of communication include but are not limited to enhancing the thinking ability of the students, acquiring competency and knowledge in written and spoken communication, improved conversation and interaction skills through interpersonal communication and effectiveness in message passing. Communication scholars intend to use the lessons availed through communication studies to make it possible to achieve objectives at the high end. People communicate because of different reasons. However, the barriers to effective communication make it impossible for people to understand each other (Wandberg, 2001). Therefore, communication studies aims at shedding light on how some of the communication barriers are averted in a conscious manner that may propel understanding among people.
