Comments from the case study analysis from three different people
The author feels that Tina was not ethical in falsifying the results of her boyfriend. This is true as the writer supports this by giving evidence of what was wrong. It is unethical to change the findings of a test yet the company has been entrusted with giving the correct findings. It is not right to give false information about something as sensitive as tests. There is a conflict of interest here as when a person is dealing with a friend or loved one, they are normally unbiased. They will tend to side with the person they love as they always want the best for them. The writer is therefore correct in saying there is a conflict of interest in this essay. The writer is quick to judge Tina. This is not good as anyone in that position would have probably done the same thing. It is in human nature to protect their loved ones. The writer is justified in saying that matters of the company should not be revealed to outside sources. If someone feels that the company they work for is of questionable practices, they should talk to management to avoid any further embarrassment. The writer’s stand in believing what the company is doing is wrong is good. Companies should always strive to do what is in its clients’ best interest.
In the second question, the writer shows that there is an ethical dilemma in the essay. An ethical dilemma involves two difficult situations that cause mental anguish to a person. This is because in choosing one option, one has to transgress the other. If a person feels that the company they work for does not uphold the moral values they represent, they should quit. The author is right to say that they should stand for the ethical thing. The author represents the views of people that believe in doing the right thing. This perspective is correct as it highlights the dilemma that is in the essay. The author’s view of doing the ethical thing is right and should be encouraged.
The author’s views of unethical behavior going on in the essay are true. However, it does not put into perspective the fact human beings are emotion creatures. Regardless of what the repercussions are, they will tend to protect their loved ones. It is natural for them to do so. The writers view about going for a second test is good as this is the ethical thing to do. If the findings are questionable, the best thing to do is to seek for a second opinion. This will also omit any doubt that there was previously there about the company. The author’s perspective though right does not look at the humanity side of the situation. The fact that there is an emotional aspect puts the protagonist in an ethical dilemma. Not working for an unethical company does not solve the situation. This is because other people will continue to suffer. However, speaking out will solve the problem. The writer’s perspective in this question is therefore misleading. It should not be applied.
