Review the assigned video “Something the Lord Made” and write a paper analyzing the communication scenarios in terms of the 7 key elements and guiding principles of effective communication.
Issues for Analysis: address the key elements and guiding principles of effective communication in your analysis. Provide specific examples from the video to support conclusions.
1. Self: how well do the communicators recognize that their characteristics and attitudes affect the way they communicate; how do the communicators’ self-concept, self-awareness, and self-esteem affect the way they communicate?; how well do the communicators self-monitor their behavior and use their observations to modify how they present themselves?; how would listeners the communicators’ ethos – that is, their character, competence, and charisma?
2. Others: to what extent do the communicators appear to understand, respect, and adapt to each other?; do the communicators avoid messages that express ethnocentrism, stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination, or racism?; do the communicators seem aware of and able to adapt their messages to differences such as the gender, age, race, ethnic background, and socioeconomic status of others?; how would you classify the communicators in terms of the intercultural dimensions of individualism-collectivism, high power distance, low power distance, high uncertainty reduction, low uncertainty reduction, masculine values, feminine values, high context, and monochronic-polychronic

Purpose: what in your opinion is each communicator’s goal?; to what extent are the communicators’ goals specific, relevant, and achievable?; what communication strategies and skills help or hinder communicators from achieving their goals?; do the communicators combine cultural understanding with mindful observations to set appropriate communicative goals?
4. Context: How well did each communicator adapt to the communication circumstances and setting?; How well did each communicator adapt to the occasion and the psychosocial context?
5. Content: To what extent have the communicators selected appropriate message content, used appropriate and effective language, and used effective arguments and supporting materials to prove their claims?
6. Structure: To what extent have the communicators effectively organized the components of their messages, organized their messages to promote credibility, empathy, comprehension, interest, persuasion, and/or inspiration?; Do the communicators seem to understand the ways in which cultural perspective influence message structure?
7. Expression: How effectively do the communicators use verbal and nonverbal delivery to convey their message, and physically present themselves?; do the communicators express their emotions effectively, intelligently, and ethically?; How well do the communicators ask and answer questions to enhance message comprehension?
