The age of innocence (Topic below in paper instructions)

topic: How does Archer view of his wife May change throughtout the course of the novel? What do you make of May’s character? We mostly get to see her throughout the gaze of Newland, but is there more depth to her than he perceives? Is she as innocent and naive as he believes her to be? Does he still think that towards the end of the novel?

content: For this paper you will choose an aspect of the novel ”The age of innocence” by Edith Wharton, that you find most interesting and argue your point of view about it. We have had a chance to talk about many different ideas, themes, motifs regarding the novel and you should be able to find one that piques your interest. Make sure the topic you are choosing is focused and that your outline is organized and tight so that you will write a solid, structured essay, analyzing an aspect of this important novel. As always be sure to write direct quotes to support your ideas.
Grading: I will be looking for a paper that:
1. Demonstrated clear understanding of the novel and its major themes
2. it is well written, easy to read and follow; ideas flow and are organized
3. has interesting topic,title, unique and insightful ideas, shows deep thinking and analysis.
4. It is well argued and shows command of the topic.
