oppression

1. Discuss any two dynamics of oppression, which we covered during the semester (self-fulfilling stereotypes, systemic racism, making class invisible, blaming the victim, or double bind) with regards the current public and government responses to illegal immigration. Cite readings from the textbook and/or other assigned readings from the syllabus. (2 pages maximum, 30 points)

2. Both Ayvazian (in the Rothenberg anthology p. 665-672) and Ignatiev (available on Moodle) emphasize the roles that allies or race traitors perform in interrupting various cycles of oppression.  Using ideas from either reading, discuss two creative ways you can be or have been an ally OR be a race traitor to interrupt a specific type of oppression.  Be specific and realistic about your responses.  If you do not have a specific real-life example, you may highlight two individuals or organizations that exemplify either one of these concepts in their work. Please cite accordingly and appropriately. (1 page maximum, 10 points).
