Compose a well-written 200-word essay on the topic. You will need to construe the topic in your own way. You should have a strong, clear thesis statement, and you should back up your point with SPECIFIC REFERENCES TO THE TEXT.

Read at least three different definitions of irony (from literary handbooks, the internet, dictionaries, etc.) and come up with your own definition. Then discuss irony in Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis.”
