Heading: Name, date and the essay number

12 or 14 font, a common script like Courier, Calibri or Times New Roman, 1 inch margins, double spaced, and indented paragraphs.

The number of paragraphs you have in your essay is optional, unless you are told otherwise. However, you should always have an introduction paragraph with a thesis sentence. You should also have a conclusion paragraph.

Choosing a “how to” or “process” essay topic: This topic can be “how to do” almost anything. This topic will give you a chance to give directions. Or pick more of a “process” type topic, where you are going to write about some type of “process.” For example, for a “how to,” you might choose “how to go surfing for the first time” or “how to end a relationship.”
