Paper #3: Ethics: Principles and Actions
For this assignment, you will write an argument advocating for the equality, representation, or acceptance of a marginalized or disadvantaged culture, group, practice or belief. Though you are welcome to write about a marginalized area with which you are affiliated, you may also choose to represent a group about which you initially know very little. Once you have selected those or that you wish to represent, decide what specific, unique argument you want to make to the dominant culture or group that will encourage equality, representation, and/or acceptance. Because you are calling for change among the majority, your audience will likely be resistant. Thus, choose your purpose and rhetoric appropriately. You may want to consider using the Rogerian form of argument but are welcome to use other appropriate forms/structures (excluding a simplistic classical structure).
Also, be original and show deep interest in your chosen topic. Above all, move the audience use an engaging tone to get them to think, or even laugh, or cry. You do not want your audience to read your argument and say, so what?Wow them with your tone, originality, exigency, and profundity.

Suggestions for Beginning:
To help you decide which culture, group, practice or belief you are most interested in representing, consider such differences within peoples: tradition, religion, politics, nationality, class, education, language, dialect, race-the list goes on. Ask yourself whether you would like to address these differences on a local or global level. Either way, your focus must be narrow; for example, writing about how African Americans are discriminated against in America is much too broad. Writing about the specific ways African Americans are discriminated against on JMU campus is more narrow and appropriate for this paper length. Finally, ask yourself what practical, realistic argument you could present to the dominant group that it would at least consider.
