1, How does the Gothic cathedral demonstrate the origins-interactions-adaptations process in
action? In what ways might the various aspects and components of a Gothic cathedral express the faith and religious sense of a medieval European Christian? What types of cultural adaptations are evident in houses of worship built today?
then go on page 586-587 read and answer question # 2.
How do Galileo’s experiments with falling bodies demonstrate the shift away from descriptive
science to mathematical science? Why did the New Science lead to conflicts between thinkers like Galileo and the Church? It has been said by some modern philophers and historians that the "dark side" of science is that, with its mathematization and other rules, it has ceased to take into consideration the basic human experience (i.e. the non-mathematical / non-scientific) as a viable and legitimate form of evidence. Is this a good or a bad thing? Why/Why not? Do you agree with such an analysis? Why/Why not?
