What is “globalization”? Too often this term is defined solely with regard to today’s markets. This course, on the other hand, has endeavored to highlight various integrative encounters over the past half-millennium. With that in mind, how would you define it? What three phenomena (taken from different centuries) have played the most important roles in bringing the world closer together over the past 600 years? Provide detailed illustrations for each, emphasizing how exactly each phenomenon (e.g., idea, ambition, technology, trade item, etc.) has “globalized” the world. Finally, do you view globalization in a negative or a positive light? Why?
