How far, or in what ways, might alternative media have a significant role to play in the construction or preservation of national/culture identities?

Consider the nature of the relationship between media and issues of national to cultural identity. A  reference to national identity would suggest consideration of what constitute/define a ‘nation’ and of the relationships of national identity to issues of cultural identification and to the nation-state.

Drawing on your knowledge of the problems inherent in the relationship between ‘national’ media and ‘national identity’, in what ways might alternative media contribute to this discussion?

Can alternative media resolve any of the problems surrounding questions of national identities within nation-states?
