Human ingenuity and intelligence have led to the advancement of technology. This has served humanity well by making work and processes easy and manageable. It has led to the development of many tools, machinery, and ideas. It has contributed to globalization, and the world no longer seems as enormous as it once was. It would be a challenge for one to envision a world without technology and especially a world without computers and the internet. The internet has changed the way people work and interact. It has changed the way people form and maintain relationships. Moreover, as Carr notes, it has changed the way people think and learn. The book “The Shallows: What the Internet is doing to our Brains” by Nicholas Carr is a reflection on the effects of the internet on people’s lives. He examines the benefits of using the internet, while at the same time urging for responsibility when using the internet. Carr cautions against relying on the internet, as a source of knowledge, noting that the data and information from the internet does not necessarily constitute knowledge. This is because the internet has changed the way that people learn. The creation of the internet describes the way people have used their intellect.

Because of the previous contradictions on the use of the internet, the book points out the need for further research on the study. This book gives the psychologists a chance to research on the different forms of learning. It gives them a chance to research how the internet has affected learning among various sectors. One of the factors that affect brain plasticity is age. Carr writes the book based on his experience and the experiences of other adults. It is possible that adults and children lose concentration in different ways. Children and adults are interested in different things, and this can determine their level of concentration. This book fits in a psychological study, especially in the issue of cognition and brain development.
