Statement for Applying for an Executive LLM at Berkeley

I have always yearned for an opportunity to advance my education, especially in the field of law where I have special interest. Consequently, I am confident that applying for an Executive LLM at the Berkley Law School will present me with the right opportunity to achieve my desires. I am confident that with effective guidance from the university, I have a better chance to expand my knowledge and possibly get a chance to proceed to the PhD level where my chances of becoming more competent in the field will grow exponentially. I am committed to put the needed effort to achieve an impressive performance considering that I have waited for this for so long.

I am a Qatari national who graduated from the Qatar University in 2021 with a LLB. The 3.78 GPA motivated me to pursue my education further to become more proficient in the field. I know that enrolling at the university will expose me to an international experience and give me an expansive view of what is needed in the field. I look forward to know how law applies in various international contexts and try to compare these with the situation in Qatar. Based on the information that I acquire, I would be able to know the areas that perform well in the Qatari law and those that require considerable adjustments. Consequently, I would be able to make necessary recommendations that would contribute towards rectifying areas that do not seem to work as expected. In addition, I am hopeful that pursuing the course at a foreign university will offer me a better chance to secure employment in any part of the world in a firm that is looking for a legal practitioner who has an international perception of law.

Coming from a Muslim nation where male dominance is considerably strong, I am optimistic that developing my career at Berkley presents me with a good chance to become more competitive not only in my home country but also elsewhere where my services my required. I hope to break the notion that women do not lack the capacity to ascend to greater heights of education. I know that by expanding my knowledge, I will gain respect regardless of my gender, and will serve as an example to other ladies who have similar aspirations, but still doubt whether they can make it. I am optimistic that once I get a job as a lawyer or law practitioner in other capacities, I will be able to serve as an example to other girls who have the perception that law is a male-dominated field and that women do not have a chance, and that those who pursue such educational programs may either not progress as much as they anticipated or may not secure the required working position.

Various other factors compel me to apply for the law program. I get the inspiration from other world leaders who studied law and have ascended to be some of the widely appreciated individuals because of their immense contributions in various fields. For instance, I have always appreciated the contributions of world leaders such as Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama whom I think their knowledge in law contributed towards the success they achieve as leaders. I also draw my inspiration from Mary Robinson who is the first woman President of Ireland. Robinson had also served as a High Commissioner for the UN, a position that requires the services of intelligent people. I look forward to reach such great heights, but I know that the task ahead is not an easy one and requires considerable attention and commitment to achieve the targeted goals. Therefore, throughout the course, I will focus on achieving the best while seeking to achieve some of the levels that the identified world leaders have attained and possibly record better performance.

The confidence I have in Berkley makes me settle on the institution of higher learning that has a good global reputation for its excellence in the field of law. I feel that the program that the university offers best suits my future anticipations, and also my present circumstance as a working legal researcher. I feel that the university has the needed resources to help me acquire relevant knowledge and use it in the best way possible to elevate my performance. I also feel that the faculty is qualified and competent enough to steer me through the entire course, thanks to their evident and prolific qualifications. The university has existed for many years during which various notable individuals have pursued their master’s degree before proceeding to be influential people in the society and their areas of practice. I believe that I will ascend to similar heights by going through the hands of the same specialists who have mastered the art of what they do.

I would like to acknowledge my director at work who inspired me to make my application at Berkley. Being an alumni at the university, my director told me very nice things about the school that compelled me to proceed with the application. I was particularly impressed with his description of how the facility has adequate resources to help both learners and tutors achieve their learning and teaching goals, respectively. The information encouraged me so much because I have always desired to be part of a learning institution that has adequate amenities to facilitate the learning practices. The other information that I received from my director at work that inspired me to focus on Berkeley as my university of choice is that he expounded about the good performance at the university. He told me that everyone who has passed through the university has performed well, especially when they are committed to the process. The encouragement has gone a long way into transforming my views on why I should join the international institution of higher learning.

Above all, I will give my best to achieve the targeted results in my studies because I know that it would be difficult to achieve my aspirations without invested the required effort. I will always be on time for lecturers and all group discussions, and I will take an active role in all practices to increase my chances of understanding what the professors say. I look forward to asking questions and sharing information with my colleagues, especially when I do not understand something. I know that the approach will allow me to avoid any confusion, and will also increase my possibilities of performing well in my class work. In addition, I also look forward to seek information from various sources other than the information that I receive from instructors to strengthen my capacity to address issues related with the course. I know that taking additional measures to build by knowledge and awareness will enhance how I perform in the long run.
