Quality of Architectural Space for Lighting

The lighting influences the perceptions of individuals towards architectural space. Although the majority of people find natural lighting as a better way of illuminating the spatial design, the use of artificial lighting is also essential. Artificial lighting is helpful in cases where the natural light does not seem sufficient. Therefore, the properties of architectural space are determinant factors in the kind of lighting system an architect would design.

The design consists of a combination of planar and shiny basswood and Bristol materials with large rectangular openings. These wider openings would act as windows to let in natural light during the day, thus providing an effective internal light system. The use of shiny Bristol paper material provides a reflective surface useful for redirecting excessive sun radiations during the day while retaining the needed rays (Naseri 82). Indeed, the design pays attention on the utilization of natural light to help maximize the visual comfort of the users, hence reducing the costs of electric lighting.

Moreover, the architectural space of the design is rectangular with planar geometric elements that run parallel to one another allowing free flow circulation of fresh air from outside. The geometry is symmetrically inclined with smaller spaces for the incorporation of florescent tubes to provide ample lighting at night. Further, the use of skylight, as illustrated from the design, blends well with the shiny reflective surfaces as it facilitates a uniform redirection of light from the installed florescent lamp light (Naseri 83). In brief, the use of natural light plays key role in influencing the moods, comfort, as well as the health of the user as much as the design touches on the use of LED lighting with color palette to add value to the user.
