Figure 1 above is the activity schedule for the project. The schedule outlines the start, the sequence, and the related time duration as well as the end – date for each task or activity. The estimated costs are listed at the end of each activity. Based on the information under Figure 1, the following is a Gant Chart (Chart 1) summarizing the activity schedule and related costs.

From the display on the Gant Chart (Chart 1) above the start date for the project is 7th October 2019 and it is expected to end on 25th October 2019. The estimated minimum duration is 16 days with a projected cost of USD 25,000 (see calculations on excel sheet).

  • Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled (BCWS) at day 10 (Figure 1) = Total budget costs for activities A, B & C = $ 2, 000 + $ 3,000 + $ 4,000 = $ 9,000 since after 10 days, they are the only activities that are expected to be completed at the period.
  • Budgeted Cost of Work Performed (BCWP) = Total cost budget for activities A, B, C, 80% of D and 25% of E
  • $ 2, 000 + $ 3,000 + $ 4,000 + $ 8,000 + $ 1,500 = $ 18,500
  • Cost Performance Index (CPI) = BCWP / Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP)
  • ACWP = Summation of cost incurred on activities A, B, C, 80% of D and 25% of E
  • $ 2,400 + $ 1,200 + $ 4,000 + $ 4,000 + $ 4,000 = $ 15,600

Therefore, CPI = $18,500/$15,600 = 1.1859
