Factors which Matter to Students/Millennials/Generation Z When Looking for a Job
Question 1
To many people, the line between millennials and generation z is thin such that there are no perceived differences in interests. From research, however, this conclusion is found to be flawed, especially with regard to interest in jobs. Stahl (2018) outlines that millennials are people born between 1981 and1996, while generation z are those people born from 1997 onward. When looking for jobs, their interests differ significantly. Malek (2017) cites that growth potential, salary benefits, and flexibility are among the key factors that millennials consider before applying for a job or accepting a recruitment offer. This suggests that if they do not find the possibility of job promotion in a company, these millennials are likely to reject the job offer. The need for high salary benefits is partly due to the student debts they have to repay. In contrast, generation z values success in both academics and professional achievements, and thus, they are likely to accept job offers only when they are guaranteed that their desire for success will be met (Stahl, 2018). This difference in appeals between the two generations explains why millennials are notoriously known as “job hoppers” while generation z tends to be contented in jobs they get.
Question 2
ConAgra Brand company is leading multinational in the
food industry and a key employer across the world. It provides its employees
with flexible working schedules in addition to competitive wages. Workers are
given leaves which are paid. With regard to employees’ personal and
professional growth, ConAgra Brand company provides online courses. For the
millennials, the company is a potential employer since it provides flexibility,
competitive salary benefits, and growth opportunities. For the generation z,
ConAgra Brand company is a choice employer since it provides opportunities for
success in both academics and professional achievements.
