Information Systems and Communication in Organizations
Organizations are always searching for approaches that they can use to distribute data securely and effectively. Information systems have been applied as an excellent way of attaining the respective objectives. Consequently, information systems involve frameworks comprised of users, software, hardware, data sources, communication networks, and policies that amass, recover, alter, and distribute data within a firm (Al-Mamary et al., 2014). The interrelated nature of these components makes these systems quite practical as far as addressing and enhancing communication is concerned. First, information systems can assist management in the collection and dissemination of information required for controlling operations and augmenting planning (Al-Mamary et al., 2014). Using a management information system (MIS), organizations can enhance all functions and levels by providing data to management, faculty members, and the employees. This information can be used to improve the management aspect of the organization hence enabling it to satisfy its mission.
Information systems can also enhance
communication across the organizations via decision support systems. Typically,
decision support systems are computer-oriented frameworks that are utilized by
the management to make decisions across any level of the organization
(Al-Mamary et al., 2014). As such, managers, while faced with several
alternatives, can use the systems to
determine the best possible decision to apply in response to challenges. Additionally,
decision support systems are usually developed to assist managers in
establishing arrangements in uncertain or
risky situations. However, for effective decisions to be implemented, these systems rely on a steady flow of information
regarding the nature of a particular situation.
With this data, decision support systems are capable of modeling, formulating,
computing, comparing, and selecting suitable alternatives (Al-Mamary et al.,
2014). Therefore, in situations whereby managers across all organizational
levels are incapable of resolving a holistic concern, these systems may enhance
communication by allowing these leaders to collaborate and determine the best
course of action.
