Watch the linked debate between Bill Nye and Ken Ham between the 14:30-1:49:46 mark. As you watch, keep notes on the debates. One effective way to do this is to take notes in columns on the issues, one for each speech. This debate involves six speeches, so turn a piece of paper sideways and keep notes. You can label the columns to help you remember the arguments.
Please read the specific directions for each part.
Part A.
After you watch the debate, answer the following questions (you do not need to include the question with your answer):
1. Was the debate over a question of fact, policy or policy?
2. Was this a formal or a non-formal debate?
3. What was the proposition for the debate?
4. Who was the target audience for this debate?
Part B.
Remembering the essential GROUNDWORK elements from Thursday’s lecture, take-on the ISOLATED and JUSTIFICATIONS FOR CLAIM perspective. Examine the debate you observed. Answer the following questions and justify your answers in 50 words or less each (please include the question in your answer):
1. Which person did a more effective job gaining ethos with the audience?
2. Which person did a more effective job providing justification for their arguments?
3. Which person did a more effective job responding to their opponents arguments?
4. Which person did a more effective job summarizing the issues?
