APPLIED RESEARCH PAPER PERFORMANCE GUIDE

Issue/Topic

Description: The Applied Research Paper is one of three options for the applied research project in PSY 496 Applied Project. The Applied Research Paper provides an opportunity for the learner to demonstrate a cumulative integration of learning within the Psychology Major. The topic of the Applied Research Paper is made by the learner. Communication and discussion of the topic is communicated to the Instructor and a progress report submitted using the message function in each learning block. The topic may be an issue within the topic area or an intervention. Essentially, the student is conducting an analysis of research literature within the topic area, analyzing and synthesizing the information into the applied research paper. A Performance Guide is provided for the paper. Performance is measured using the Guide and the Learning Outcomes.

Following the completion of the Research Paper the learner will be able to:

1. Utilize research protocols in defining, researching, analyzing and synthesizing appropriate scholarly research within the topic/issue selected.
2. Demonstrate critical thinking skills in the implementation of the research activity as evidenced through the application of the research process using the scientific method identified in this guide.
3. Demonstrate grammatically appropriate writing skills as evidenced in the quality of the written report. The American Psychological Association Style (APA) Format will be used in this paper.
4. Demonstrate analytical, synthesis and evaluative qualities as evidenced in the selection of the reference resources, development of the paper, succinct and logical organization of the information.
5. Demonstrate research expertise in locating, identifying, selecting and application of literature resources within the context of the paper and the oral presentation.
6. Evaluate professional/academic literature relative to an awareness of the need for life-long learning.
7. Demonstrate in the writing of the paper the application of values and ethics in the research process.
