Health Promotion

Posted: December 10th, 2013

Assignment brief:

Design a strategic proposal for health promotion to address one need identified in assignment one.

Format:

This continues the planning cycle started in assignment one. Use a numbered report format, with the stages of the cycle (below) as headings, (so no need for an introduction)

1.Aim and objectives. One clear aim, and three different types of SMART objectives

(you need to state the type). Give brief justifications.

2. Health Promotion Activities.  Describe the activities you propose to use in your strategy, and justify your choices, with reference to the underpinning health promotion theories / models / approaches, and research / examples of practice. Show critical understanding of the theories, and the relative value of each activity (which are most likely to improve health, and why). Fit your activities into Beattie’s framework and put this in an appendix.

3. ResourcesKeep this short, give support from research/theory (e.g. which skills are needed, and why)

4. Evaluation. Describe and justify the types and methods of evaluation.

5. Action plan Complete a Gantt chart, put in the appendix

Things to consider:

You need to make decisions at each stage, all of which need to be consistent, e.g. the activities need to fit with the aim, the evaluation with the objectives, etc). You need to justify each step by referring to appropriate theory, policy, principles, research, rather than merely describe. Keep in mind the purpose of health promotion (see e.g. Ottawa Charter)
