1. Environmental Problem
Locate an article that describes a current environmental problem. Discuss why you selected the article and why you feel it is an environmental problem worthy of further discussion and research.
2. Your Future
The future is full of promise, but also uncertainty and threats. Consequently, writers and some scholars deal with both future utopias and dystopias. There seems to be more of a market for the latter these days! What kinds of problems do you foresee that are most likely to affect you personally? Your children? Conversely, what are some possibilities for a brighter future? Personally, what talents, skills, or attitudes can help you have a good future?

Week 5, we will explore Environmental Problem and Your Future in the class discussion; and Population Density as the individual assignment. As of last week, we have delved into global change and its impact on society. In Chapter 13 we will explore how global change examining the changing relationships between human social activity and the planet as a resource base. According to Harper & Leicht, “the desire to look into the future is very ancient, and every society has probably had its seers, visionaries, and prophets who had a special role in envisioning the future” (356). In many of the discussions we have had to date, many of you have identified someone in our past that has impacted social change today. This week will discuss individuals today that may impact change in our future.
